SYTYCD - final 8

Posted by Lessa | Fox, SYTYCD | Saturday 26 July 2008 5:57 am

So by now, you all likely know who has been eliminated, and what happened this week on SYTYCD - so I thought I’d post my favorite dance of the night. Katee and Twitch dancing a very different Mia Michaels contemporary routine! Hands down the BEST dance of the night.

I’m sad to see Will go, but there is no doubt at all that he’ll continue to work as a dancer. He’s beautiful, but I’m glad that Twitch is still with the competition! Comfort was the girl eliminated, and that was no real surprise either, though her performance on Wednesday night was pretty darn good. It just wasn’t quite good enough.

This is the best season of So You Think You Can Dance yet!

SYTYCD: Results

I know, I’m a few days behind - blame Big Brother taking up my time and thoughts as we got Big Brother Craze back up and running! By now, I’m sure everyone knows that Kherington and Gev were sent home last Thursday, but I wanted to make sure to post the Group dances. Mia can be a total witch, but you know what? She can choreograph like no one else, ever. The Girls dance to Ava Maria was stunningly beautiful, as usual.

And the Bollywood routine? Genius! I love love LOVE Bollywood!

And of course, there was Nigel as the “mystery choreographer” Old Mo. Heh.

I’ll miss Gev, but I think it was Kherington’s time to go for sure. Tune in Wednesday for the performances of the top 8!

SYTYCD: Top 10!

Posted by Lessa | Fox, SYTYCD | Thursday 17 July 2008 10:18 pm

So last night on SYTYCD, it’s the top 10, new partnerships, and the Judges are no longer handling the eliminations, it’s all about the votes of the people from here on out. We also go to see what happened to Jessica. Seems she broke two ribs and fractured another, and has been ordered by the doctors to not dance for four weeks. She’s pulls out, but is pleased that Comfort gets to take her place in the competition. Awww!

It’s a jam-packed evening of dance, as the girls pick their partners name out of a hat for two partner dances, and then each dancer will have a solo as well.

Speaking of - here’s all of the solos in one fell swoop.

SYTYCD News!

We take a break from Big Brother Mania in order to let you know what to expect tomorrow night on So You Think You Can Dance. It was announced this morning that Jessica King has suffered an injury, and the last eliminated girl, Comfort, will be reinstated to the competition with Jessica’s full support.

There were no specifics given about the injury - how it happened or what exactly it was, just that it would take time and a lot of rest to heal. Comfort was back in the studio for rehersal this morning. Take that, Mia - who, by the way, doesn’t think she’s the mean judge, but more “Mama Mia” with a tough love approach. Umhm…

Other tidbits that came from a Q&A with the judges - the Choreographers work with the dancers only for about an hour and a half on Fridays and three hours on Saturday - which makes it all the more impressive what these dancers pull out! Also, Nigel’s still upset when he talks about Robert quitting the competition in Vegas.

Tune in tomorrow for the top 10 performances!

SYTYCD - Eliminations

The best part of any elimination show isn’t the solos, in my opinion, nor the guest dancers/singers. Nope, it’s the group performances that start off the show - THATS what I love, and this one is no different, though it’s not my favorite so far… it’s still pretty cool. I mean, GLOW IN THE DARK! Duh. Can’t go wrong with that!

Now, the guest performance - that was truly moving! Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater had three of their dancers perform, and it was simply stunning. The musical guest to fill in the space while Judges deliberate was Katy Perry, singing “I Kissed a Girl.” Which is oddly catchy and has been stuck in my head all bloody day.

There were no surprises in the final three - except possibly Jessica and Will, though when there’s only 6 couples and half of them are going to end in the bottom, it’s really not overly shocking one of my favorites ended up dancing for their lives. Joining them there was Twitchington, and Comfort and Thayne once again.

The solos were great as usual, though Comfort looked hurried and panicked though Nigel thought it was brilliant. Kherington was stunning, and Jessica was somewhere in the middle. Will was fanfreakingtastic - he’s just so beautiful to watch, Twitch was total fun, and Thayne rocked it as well. The judges wished they could keep all three boys and ditch two girls, but it wasn’t to be.

And really, unsurprisingly, despite Mia’s tears of mourning when her beloved boy was cast aside, Comfort and Tayne said goodbye last night, and we’re down to our final 10.

The competition is going to really step up now!

SYTYCD - Top 12!

We’re one step closer to the top 10 on So You Think You Can Dance, and the couples turned it out again last night, as the best shone and the others… well, they tried. Each couple performed twice again this week, and while there were some definite hits, there were quite a few misses too. Just another night for SYTYCD!

Mia is one of the judges - which means I’m going to be groaning by nights end. Her Choreography is flawless, but her commentary? Ugh. Ugh. UGH.

Check out all the action, plus YouTube Clips of the dances, after the cut!

HK - and the winner is…

Posted by Lessa | Fox, Hell's Kitchen | Wednesday 9 July 2008 5:55 am

On last weeks Hell’s Kitchen, we saw Christina and Petrozza get their restaurant designed, fly to New York for a gratuitous Whoopi Goldberg appearance, as well as a tasting where they had to face the five executive chef’s that currently work for Chef Ramsey. Petrozza won the challenge by a 3-2 vote, and thus got the first pick of his team, schoolyard style. They create their menus, got the decor under control, and it’s time to pick the staff. Petrozza picks Bobby and Ben, Christina gets Lou Ross and Corey, and they both lament over the final two, Matt and Jen. Petrozza picks Jen, and she thinks she was last picked because they’re all scared of her leadership skills, and that she might outshine them. Yeah, right. That means Christina’s team is finished off with Matt - if she can overcome that deficit and win, she definitely deserves it!

Prep work begins, the chef’s pump up their teams, explain their menus and get everything finalized and ready for the final service. Turns out Petrozza has nothing prepared, and Christina sucks up to Matt saying she was inspired by his risotto. It’s complete bunk, but he buys it and tells her that he’ll call her ‘Chef’ now because that earned his respect. Mkay. Matt continuously cements my belief that he’s bug nuts, a few beers shy a 6pack. Man, if I drank beer I’d totally down one right about now. oh! DRINKING GAME! Everytime Matt talks to himself, mutters and snaps, DRINK! Bye bye sobriety!

Jen gets all snippy with Petrozza, then as soon as he turns his back, she’s asking Chef Ramsey to write her a letter of recommendation, to the shock and disbelief of everyone. Girls got balls, that’s for sure. Giant brass ones! Meanwhile Matt says something about peeing in the food - DRINK!

So the chefs present their dishes, Ramsey gives them some pointers, checks the dining rooms, both of which he loves and then it’s time to open Hell’s Kitchen! Each chef has to serve 13 tables and 50 diners, while Ramsey watches with his eagle eye. The comments from the diners will be factored into his final decision, too.

Bobby has a rough start, and Matt is worthless as he first succeeds in not helping Lou Ross at all, then serves up entree after entree of raw munkfish, and he just can’t understand why. After that segment, I’m completely sloshed as he’s muttering nonstop under his breath, telling Chef Ramsey to shut up in a way he’d never do to his face. On the other side, Jen can’t seem to manage a crispy onion ring, and is being her usual pissy lazy self.

They do manage to pull off a complete service, and keep from throwing Jen and Matt inot the fryers. Ramsey looks over the cards and makes his decision, then tells both Christina and Petrozza they did excellently, and the decision was hard as hell. They take their place by the doors, turn the handles after a commercial break and 30second tension building break as both contestants look like they’re going to spew. or pass out. or both.

And the winner of Hell’s Kitchen 4 is… Christina! Her door opens, there’s much rejoicing, and all is good. Gordon says that he picked her because she’s good now and has unlimited potential. Congrats Christina!
